Dundee’s Ronnie Clark and unbeaten Fife prospect Connor Law will fight on the home debut bill of Commonwealth Games gold medallist Josh Taylor.
Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions yesterday announced LIFT OFF, a night of championship boxing on Friday the October 16 at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Arena.
In his first Scottish pro bout light welterweight Taylor will headline the event when he takes on Hungarian champion Adam Mate.
Former kick-boxing world champion Clark takes on Belfast’s undefeated Anthony Cacace for the vacant Celtic Super Featherweight belt.
Also featuring on the undercard are a host of up and coming Scottish prospects, including unbeaten Fife middleweight Law.
It will be his sixth pro contest after a successful amateur career.
Taylor said: “I am buzzing ahead of making my home debut in Edinburgh on October the 16. It was great to get off the mark in the USA on such a big show but there’s nothing like boxing at home and I can’t wait to show my fans how much I have developed as a fighter.
“Adam Mate is a decent step up for me and he has fought for titles and always comes to fight so it’s going to be a great night at the Meadowbank.”
McGuigan said: “Josh Taylor is going to be Scotland’s next boxing superstar. He has all the attributes needed to win a world title and I believe that October the 16th will be the start of a very exciting journey for this young man.
“It is his first headline show at home in Edinburgh and he is boxing a tough kid from Hungary in Adam Mate who will be coming to win. Scotland has some of the best boxing fans in the world and in Josh Taylor they have a future world champion who is the whole package. There are some exciting times ahead.”
