Fifer Rory Butcher is making a 2015 return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.
The 27-year-old has been confirmed in a beefed-up Motorbase Performance line-up for the series in which the team will run two Aston Martin V12 Vantages for its assault on a championship double.
Butcher will partner Liam Griffin in the title-winning Kent-based squad’s challenge over all seven rounds of the season, on which the flag drops at Cheshire’s Oulton Park on April 6.
Following an impressive rookie British GT season in 2014 that saw him secure two podiums and four top-10 finishes, Butcher is justifiably enthusiastic.
He said: “It’s really nice to have the deal all tied up early this year, and I’m delighted to be back with Motorbase for a second season.
“Liam is one of the best amateur drivers on the grid and an excellent partner.
“We have a great relationship and having him on board for the full season gives us a strong chance of getting consistent results and to build on the successes of last year.”
Motorbase team principal David Bartram said: “I think we’ve got two very strong pairings for British GT’s and I can’t wait to get started.”
He continued: “We finished runner-up last year in the driver’s championship and won the team championship which was fantastic for the team, but you really want to win the drivers’ title as well so we’ll have to work even harder this year and try to achieve our goals.”
Butcher made the switch to the Aston Martin in 2014 after several seasons of success in the Porsche Carrera Cup.
But he has already been back behind the wheel of a Stuttgart machine this year, with a strong endurance racing debut in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
Butcher bagged a seat in the GB Autosport-run Tully’s Coffee Porsche 911 for the Florida classic to help the team to a seventh place in the “awesome” event.
