Ice hockey: Dundee Stars swoop for Canadian to alleviate injury crisis

Injury-hit Dundee Stars have swooped for Canadian winger Jack MacLellan.

The Calgary-born hitman has played for six teams in four leagues. He will make his debut against Edinburgh Capitals at Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday.

Club director Mike Ward said: “Jack comes well-recommended by one of our team. We think he can do a job for us and we’re delighted to have an extra body in for the weekend after our recent injury crisis.”

Five key players, including skipper Brock McPherson, have been injured and Jerry Pollastrone quit after signing for a Swedish club.

MacLellan is in shape having played 30 games for East Coast Hockey League side Wheeling Nailers this season. The 25-year-old has netted 11 goals and recorded six assists so far this term.

Ward hopes to get MacLellan on the ice for part of Dundee’s scheduled practice on Friday, and possibly Saturday.
