Dundee boxer wins national title

Dundee boxer Ryan Mckelvie, who trains at the Glenrothes boxing club, claimed a national title at the weekend.

The 17-year-old became Scottish youth welterweight champion at the Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

He boxed Aberdeen’s Eddie Copland, the current Scottish champion and British finalist.

Mckelvie took the fight to his tall opponent from the first bell and won a unanimous points decision.

He will now go on to represent Scotland at the British championships in May or June.
