Perth’s Kirsty Guest is admittedly out of practice when it comes to Super-G racing but that didn’t stop her from enjoying instant success at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships.
More than 100 skiers took to the sun-kissed slopes of Tignes on Monday for the Super-G event, which had been postponed over the weekend due to poor weather conditions.
And 17-year-old Guest was eligible for both National Championships and National Junior Championships Super G-races due to her age.
It was the second run in which the Strathallan School pupil really excelled, clocking in with a time of 1:21.86 minutes to finish third in the British Under-18 category.
“I haven’t done a Super-G race this year and this is the first time I’ve been on these skis since I’ve trained in October, so it was unexpected and I’m really happy,” she said.
“It was pretty surprising to be honest, I didn’t really expect it but I was over the moon. The first run was really disappointing, so in the second run I was going to go 100 per cent.
“I could hear a lot of people going out and the start and I just thought that I had to finish, I had to make it.
“I tried to push everything out of my mind and I took a much better line and was much more aggressive and I guess that’s where I got all my speed from.
