Fife Flyers’ hopes of a third straight Elite League win came to an end on Sunday night at pace-setting Cardiff Devils.
The face-off at the Big Blue Tent was delayed by 10 minutes due to the late arrival of the Kirkcaldy club.
The puck was nestling in the net three times inside the first nine minutes, leaving Flyers playing catch-up.
Leigh Salters broke the deadlock for Devils, who were edged 3-2 at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday, after five minutes.
Joey Martin, the Elite League’s top points scorer, popped in the second after 6: 39.
Guillaume Doucet made it 3-0 less than two minutes after that.
Former Dundee Stars marksman Nico Sacchetti pulled one back after 26 minutes, with TJ Caig assisting.
But Andrew Hotham netted the Devils’ fourth after 38 minutes.
At Dundee, coach Marc Lefebvre was looking to snap a two-game losing run.
Home hero John Dolan broke the deadlock after seven minutes, with Sam McCluskey and Riley Wetmore assisting, to shock high-flying Sheffield.
The Yorkshire side, who are second in the table but travelled with only back-up netminder Brad Day, their No 1 Marek Pinc having been injured on Saturday night against Cardiff, replied through defenceman Jace Coyle in 32 minutes.
Dundee battled on and defenceman Kevin Hart, set up by David Turon and Brett Switzer, was on hand to net their second after 35 minutes.
Levi Nelson made it 2-2 three minutes later.
After five minutes of sudden death overtime it was on to a shoot-out.
Ryan Hayes missed.
Tyler Mosienko and Levi Nelson both netted for the visitors.
Curtis Leinweber and Lou Dickenson both missed for Dundee.
Meanwhile, Edinburgh Capitals lost 4-1 at home to Braehead Clan on Sunday night.
