Two young Perth curlers have been selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Team GB at next month’s Lillehammer Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Lillehammer 2016, which runs from the February 12 to 21, will see around 1,100 of the world’s best young athletes descend on Norway to compete in 70 events during 10 days of winter sport action.
Team GB’s delegation will feature in seven of the 15 disciplines that make up the sporting programme – alpine skiing, bobsleigh, curling, freestyle skiing, ice hockey skills challenge, luge and skeleton.
The local curlers are Callum Kinnear (15) and Mili Smith (17).
Callum said: “It feels amazing to have been selected and this is something I’ve wanted to do ever since watching the Winter Youth Olympic Games four years ago.
“To finally get selected it just brilliant and it’s definitely the highlight of my career so far.
“I’ve always looked up to Dave Murdoch and the curlers who won Olympic silver as part of Team GB in Sochi two years ago. It would be great to follow in their footsteps in Lillehammer.”
