Nico Sacchetti has come in from the cold as Fife Flyers bid to boost their squad in the second-half of the season. The highly-rated American centre ice from Virginia helped Dundee Stars secure the Gardiner Conference title, the club’s first major honour. He joins the Kirkcaldy club this week after a lengthy red-tape hold up. The 26-year-old, who has been sidelined through injury, said: “I can’t wait to get back on the ice. “I hope I can help the team have a strong second-half of the year and finish high up in the standings.” Sacchetti is a former Dallas Stars draft pick round two, 50th overall in the 2007 National Hockey League entry. He later moved from North America to Holland. Sacchetti became a Stars favourite when he netted 30 goals and collected 33 assists in 43 games. Todd Dutiaume, Fife’s head coach, said: “Nico is a player that we have been interested in for a number of years. “He is a big strong guy with a heavy shot who we feel has the capability of putting up good numbers and give our offensive production a boost.”
