Labour and the Conservatives are still locked in an extremely tight race for Downing Street, according to the latest batch of opinion polls.
Two polls gave the Tories a lead – with the latest Lord Ashcroft survey showing them on 36%, six points ahead of Labour on 30% – while the ICM poll for the Guardian gave David Cameron’s party a three-point lead on 35% to 32% for Ed Miliband’s party.
But the Sun’s YouGov poll had Labour in the lead on 34% to the Tories’ 33%, indicating that the battle for No 10 remains agonisingly close for the party leaders.
Tories will take some cheer from their highest Ashcroft rating yet and the Tory peer’s poll also showing the threat of Ukip receding with Nigel Farage’s party down two points to 11%, while the Liberal Democrats are on 9%.
But ICM had Ukip on 13% (up two) and Lib Dems on 9% (down one).
YouGov put Ukip even higher at 14% and the Lib Dems on 8%.
North of the border, a TNS poll found Scottish National Party support continuing to surge to 54%, almost two-and-a-half times Labour’s 22%.
