Glasgow light-welterweight Willie Limond insists he wants to keep hold of his Commonwealth title just as much as challenger Mitch Prince wants to take it from him.
The pair will square off at Bellahouston Sports Centre in Limond’s home city on June 7.
Limond hopes to use the bout to progress his claim for European and British title shots but he has to hold off his hungry opponent originally from South Africa but now living in Cumbernauld who has lost just one of 13 professional fights to date.
While Limond is a veteran of 40 battles, he is five years older than his 29-year-old opponent and Prince insists his desire to emulate the former WBU, IBO and European Union lightweight champion’s performances on the biggest stage will see him through to victory.
But Limond claimed he still has the desire to succeed despite being an experienced 35-year-old campaigner.
“It’s hard getting (titles), it’s harder keeping them,” he said.
“You need to burst your backside to keep them and that is what I have done. I’ve only lost one belt in the ring. All the rest I’ve gave up or relinquished.
“I know Mitch has trained hard, I expect him to have trained hard. If he didn’t, he would be a fool.”
