Perth prodigy Scott Donaldson just one step from Australian Open
ByThe Courier Reporter
Perth snooker star Scott Donaldson is only one win away from travelling Down Under for the final stages of the Australian Open as he won his third qualifying match at the Capital Venue in Gloucester.
Donaldson, who has already qualified for the last 64 of the Wuxi Classic in China, maintained his good form, recovering well from 3-1 down to England prospect Shane Castle in the opening round to win the next four frames for a 5-3 victory.
Donaldson won the last frame with a total clearance of 136.
In the second round, Donaldson, who won the European Championship in 2012 to secure his pro card, was 3-2 down and 4-3 down to England’s Jimmy Robertson before holding his nerve for a 5-4 victory.
The 19-year-old from Perth then followed that up as he defeated England’s Adam Duffy 5-3, with a decisive break of 50 in the eighth frame to secure victory and a place in the final qualifying round today against world number 45 Rory McLeod.
