Laura Robson feels “as good as new” after winning her battle with the chest infection that contributed to her recent first-round exits in Doha and Dubai.
The British No 2 has been playing with the illness since London 2012, although it became more persistent at the start of the year and failed to improve after several courses of antibiotics.
Having consulted a specialist, however, and been given further medication, Robson is on the road to recovery.
“The chest infection is in the process of clearing up. I’ll be fine for Indian Wells next month,” the 19-year-old said.
“I’ve had another course of antibiotics stronger stuff and I’m as good as new.
“It’s always tough playing when you’re a bit ill, but it was my decision to play in Doha and Dubai.
“I’m still happy that I played, but it’s been good to get back on the training court in the last few days.”
It has been a breakthrough six months for Robson, who reached the fourth round of the US Open in September and the third round of the Australian Open last month.
But having helped Great Britain secure a World Group II play-off against Argentina in the Fed Cup, she went into sharp decline at the Qatar Total Open and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
“It’s very easy to play in grand slams when you have nothing to lose,” Robson said.
“I played on some of the biggest courts in the world, which is always exciting for me. But some more consistency would be great.
“I want to be seeded at a grand slam this year, hopefully Wimbledon. That would make my life a lot easier and I’ll keep working hard to make it happen.”
