Tom Daley will take the first significant step towards trying to reclaim his platform world title in Edinburgh next month.
Daley will return to senior international competition for the first time since he won bronze at last year’s London Olympics for the World Series event.
While the six-leg World Series begins in Beijing this weekend Daley has opted, following discussions between his coach Andy Banks and British Diving performance director Alexei Evangulov, to delay his return ahead of the summer’s World Championships in Barcelona.
The 18-year-old, who reclaimed his national title last month, will therefore have three months of solid competition to prepare.
“The World Series is a great way to start the season,” said Daley, who will lead a seven-strong British team in Edinburgh. “It allows us to compete against the best ahead of the World Championships and it is a good measure of how you are doing in mid-season training.”
European platform synchro champions Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow will join Daley in a squad that also includes Chris Mears, Nick Robinson-Baker, Alicia Blagg and Hannah Starling.
