Eve Muirhead leads Scotland to World Curling Championship glory
ByThe Courier Reporter
Perthshire curler Eve Muirhead has realised a lifetime dream by becoming world champion.
The 22-year-old from Blair Atholl led Scotland to victory over European gold medallists Sweden in a tense final in Latvia that went down to the last stone.
Courier columnist Muirhead is now a certainty to make Team GB for next year’s Sochi Winter Olympics, and Sunday’s World success will make her one of the favourites for gold in Russia, her second Games.
Muirhead, who had four junior world titles, several Scottish and a European to her name before Riga, said last night: “We knew that if we played the best we could we would be close to a medal.
“It’s a good boost for us to go into the Olympics as world champions.”
