Dundee High School’s post New Year rugby layoff continued on Saturday when the home match against Glasgow Academy was frozen off and, with forecasts of a cold spell, prospects for games this weekend look slim.
High School still have to play their Brewin Dolphin under-18 shield semi-final against Loretto, a tie that has twice been called off.
The Mayfield side are due to play Hutchesons’ Grammar School on Saturday but that could be replaced by the shield match against Loretto if conditions permit.
A win for High would match them against the plate holders, Glenalmond, who reached the final by beating Robert Gordon’s College 38-12.
Also adding to the Brewin Dolphin backlog is the Tayside and Fife regional plate final match between Bell Baxter High School and Morrison’s Academy, which has repeatedly been a victim of the winter conditions.
One game that did go ahead this weekend was the national youth under-16 bowl quarter-final between Dundee Eagles and Gala Red Triangle.
The match finished 29-29 but Gala RT outscored Dundee Eagles by 5-4 on tries to advance.
Three of the Eagles’ four tries were scored by No 8 Sean Gauld, the other coming from fellow backrow Lewis Keddie.
Stand-off Rory Johnston added three conversions and a penalty goal.
