There were no surprises in the BT Cup first round results on Saturday only confirmation of the gap which now exists even between BT National Division 1 and Division 3.
Both Perthshire and Dunfermline were on the wrong end of 87-0 scorelines, the size of the deficit making it a little patronising even to remark about the coincidence because in truth a result like that does neither side any favours. The nearest Perthshire came to getting on the board was with a 17th-minute Andy Whitelaw penalty which went wide, leaving GHA 8-0 ahead.
That scoreline rapidly soared and in the end there were three tries each for Andrew Gillman, Euan Greer and Rangi Jericevich.
Neil Cassie and Andy Henderson grabbed a couple apiece, with singles for Ross Angus and Peter Jericevich, who also slotted a penalty to open the scoring and later added seven conversions.
It was equally difficult for Dunfermline at Duffus Park.
Graham Thomson, Bob Douglas, Chris Martin and Andy McLean each notched a brace of tries for Howe of Fife in the 87-0 rout.
At Rubislaw, Aberdeen Grammar Rugby were also in merciless mode as they put Murrayfield Wanderers to the sword by 70-5.
Things were considerably more evenly-matched at Kirkcaldy.
The hosts took the lead against Dundee HSFP with a Jamie Moffat penalty on 15 minutes but that was the only time the Beveridge Park outfit held the lead.
John Petty and Nick Alston crossed for first half tries, with Harry Miller converting the first and landing a penalty which saw Dundee go in 15-3 ahead.
Three tries in five minutes for Dundee early in the second half killed off the tie.
Olly Cain, Andy Dymock and Donald Sangster were the executioners, with Miller adding the coup de grace by converting all three to give Dundee a 36-3 win, which was, in fact, a bit tough on a Kirkcaldy side who gave an excellent account of themselves.
Aberdeenshire came even closer to causing an upset at Jed as they turned round 10-3 ahead but Jed hit back in the second half.
They ran in four tries to no reply, taking the tie 27-10.
Matt Emerson’s try, with Adam Blake adding a conversion and penalty to a Dan Richie penalty, gave the visitors the lead but four second half-tries helped ease Jed into the second round.
