Friday was rugby night at Myreside, and Dundee High Rugby made the most of their trip to the capital with a 27-15 win over Watsonians.
The home side had tries from No 10 Andrew Chalmers and flanker Jon Goldring, with Chalmers landing a conversion and a penalty.
The visitors outscored the side one above them in the BT Premiership table with a brace of tries from full-back Blair Cochrane and one from wing Ross Lemon, with Harry Miller slotting all three conversions and two penalties.
Saturday was the day when all eyes were on Duffus Park as Howe of Fife made one final effort to secure promotion from BT National 2.
They didn’t exactly blow Aberdeenshire away but, with a 17-8 lead at the break, Gary Horne’s troops were determined not to let the advantage slip the way they had in the title decider against Musselburgh the week before.
They restricted Shire to one more try and ran out 34-13 winners to take their place alongside the Musselburgh men in BT National 1 next season.
Stephen Cook had a first half try for Shire, with Ian Redmond adding a penalty.
After the break Sean Ryan crossed for try number two, but there was no stopping Howe, with a hat-trick for Ian Wilson and one each for Bill Wardlow, Fraser Clarke and prop Grant Henderson, with Dom Martin adding two conversions.
For their penultimate match and the final one of the season at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy signed off on a high with a 45-12 win over Ardrossan Accies thanks to a Kurt Littlejohn hat-trick, a brace for Chris Mann and one each from Dayle Turner and Craig Letham, with Letham adding five conversions.
