Kirkcaldy could have done fellow Fifers Howe of Fife a favour but were unable to deny RBS Championship B league leaders Jed-Forest the win bonus which took them one point clear at the top.
Jed ran in six tries to three with only one converted.
Donald Grieve snaffled a couple of tries for Jed, Robert Lovett, Chris Gillon, John Szkudro and Liam Lawrence had one each and Chris Laidlaw slotted the sole conversion.
Kirkcaldy’s three tries came from Chris Mann, Rhys Bonnor and Ross Girdler and although a win for Livingston over Murrayfield Wanderers takes them to fourth, the league run-in still sees Kirkcaldy comfortably in fifth position.
Kirkcaldy could have dropped to sixth but a 22-19 home win for Aberdeenshire over Haddington prevented the visitors from leapfrogging the Beveridge Park men and takes Aberdeenshire well away from the bottom three.
Shire led 22-12 at the break with tries from flanker Kenny Penman and No 8 Stuart Douglas with centre Ian Downie breaking the back row monopoly with the third try. Full-back Gavin Cunningham slotted two conversions.
Haddington added a converted try after the break but the Shire defence held to make it league win number five for the home side.
