Gregor Townsend believes Glasgow are better equipped than ever to mount a meaningful assault on Europe.
The coach issued his confident verdict after the Warriors buried their Scarlets hoodoo with a 17-12 victory on Saturday their fifth Pro12 triumph on the trot.
As he turned his attention to this weekend’s Heineken Cup opener against champions Toulon in France, Toony declared: “We could not have asked for anything more in terms of preparation for the step up to the big stage.
“The effort of the guys at Llanelli was fantastic though, but we did make it hard for ourselves in the second half. We did enough defensively and you can’t fault them for fighting until the end.
“Scarlets beat us twice last term and our performance down there was our poorest of the campaign. So we knew we had to play well and match them physically.
“We did that and the players also showed good awareness and linked up well in key plays throughout the game. We gave Scarlets momentum in the second half and increased the pressure with two yellow cards.
“I do feel though that our changes in the last quarter of the match helped us manage that pressure though and the new players that came on gave us another spark.”
The basis of their fifth straight win came from two tries in the first 30 minutes through prop Ryan Grant and lock Tim Swinson, while Duncan Weir, in his first start of the season, added both conversions and a 62nd-minute penalty.
Scarlets, who earned a losing bonus point, scored four penalty goals, three for fly-half Rhys Priestland and one from wing Jordan Williams.
