Perthshire regained top spot in RBS Caledonia Division 1 after a role reversal with their fellow title contenders Dunfermline.
The Fifers had moved into pole position the previous week after Perthshire’s clash with Orkney was postponed.
On Saturday, Dunfermline were left idle after their trip to Orkney was called off. That handed Perthshire the chance to return to the summit.
And they took full advantage, with Scott Alcorn, Andy Elder, Sam Brand and Adam Pattinson bagging a try apiece and Dominic O’Connor booting all four conversions while Andrew Whitelaw weighed in with a drop goal to clinch a 31-5 win away to Ellon.
St Andrews University moved away from the basement slot after squeezing past Caithness 6-5.
There was an equally tight finish at Inchmacoble where Strathmore’s recent run of disappointing results continued when Morgan Academy edged out the hosts 20-19 to avenge a home defeat earlier in the season.
The fixture between Dundee University and Glenrothes was postponed because the students were unable to raise a side.
Harris Academy had built a 17-0 lead in their match away to Kinross thanks to tries from Andy Quin, Iain Anderson and James Carr when the deteriorating conditions forced the referee to abandon the game.
However, as 60 minutes had already been played, the result will stand. With the top two sides out of action, Crieff & Strathearn had an opportunity to move into second spot with a win at Waid Academy.
However, it proved to be a disappointing trip for the Braidhaugh men who returned empty-handed after going down 36-24. The win moves the Anstruther side up to eighth place.
Blairgowrie trimmed the gap on Crieff with a 22-20 win away to Kirkcaldy seconds. That defeat for the Beveridge Park side enabled Fife Southern to claim fifth spot after they claimed all five points, scoring four unconverted tries on their way to a 20-0 win at home to a young Glenrothes seconds.
