The door to an RBS National League play-off spot finally shut on Dundee High last Saturday.
Although they thumped Peebles 40-10 at the Gytes, Stewarts Melville’s win over Kelso means that with one game left, Colin Robertson’s men cannot catch them to snag that second spot.
The win at Peebles was comfortable enough, a 21-3 half-time lead almost doubled in the second half with a couple of tries from No8 Richie McIver and one each from full back Nick Alston, scrum half Andy Dymock, lock Chris Cumming and skipper Alan Brown.
Bryce Hosie hoisted his already impressive points tally by converting five out of six but it only now remains for Dundee to bring down the curtain on a disappointing league season with their final home match against Selkirk on March 22.
Meanwhile it will go to the final match of RBS Championship B.
Jed will have to hold their nerve against Lasswade and winning with a bonus point, while it will be crucial for Howe of Fife to win their final encounter with Kirkcaldy with a bonus to take advantage of any slip-up.
The final match scenario comes about as neither Jed nor Howe failed to collect a win bonus in their penultimate match.
Jed turned a 24-5 half-time lead into a 31-10 scoreline at Livingston while Howe thought they had better make sure of the bonus so ran in 12 tries against Murrayfield Wanderers to increase an already substantial points differential with a 72-17 win.
No 8 Chris Mason had a hat-trick, Givin Imrie and Angus Guthrie had a couple of tries each with the rest spread among Alisdair Wilson, Fraser Clark, Brodie Runciman and Dennis Potter and a penalty try. Dom Martin converted six.
Aberdeenshire were at the wrong end of a 55-26 thrashing to Musselburgh at Stoneyhill.
Lasswade finally managed a full complement of players to take on Kirkcaldy and ran in seven tries in a 43-26 victory.
In RBS Caledonia Division 1, Dunfermline won 38-26 at Mackie FP and Perthshire travelled to St Andrews University and collected a bonus point in a 45-12 victory.
Third-placed Orkney have a game in hand over the top two and visit North Inch on April 5, then take on Dunfermline at home on April 12.
