Connacht 12 Glasgow 19: Gregor Townsend praises ‘ultimate team man’

Relieved Glasgow chief Gregor Townsend labelled Dan van der Merwe “the ultimate team man” after Saturday’s win over Connacht in Ireland.

The Warriors had made the trip to Galway smarting from the most troubled week of Townsend’s tenure.

But thanks to new dad van der Merwe’s touchdown and a series of pinpoint kicks in wretched conditions by Duncan Weir, a degree of normality and calm was restored.

And Glasgow go into the autumn Test break snapping at the heels of Munster at the top of the Pro12 table after the 19-12 victory.

Townsend said: “It was an important win in tough conditions against a tough team. I am really proud of the players.”
