The top of the RBS Championship crystallised significantly on Saturday with two results in the borders.
Aberdeenshire found themselves on the wrong end of an eight-try blitz at Riverside Park with a large zero on their side of the scoreboard.
For Jedburgh, Monty Mitchell and Sean Goodfellow helped themselves to two tries apiece, Don Greive, Chris Laidlaw, Chris Gillon and Robert Lovett had one each and Laidlaw slotted five out of his eight conversion attempts.
Along the road in Hawick Howe of Fife’s match against Hawick YM had to be moved to a less sodden ground but that did not deter the Duffus Park men who went on a nine-try spree and ran out 67-3 winners.
Alisdair Wilson and Rory Drummond sank doubles and Chris Mason, Angus Guthrie, Terry Turpie, Girvin Imrie and Calum Willison went over for a try each and with Dom Martin banging over eight conversions and a couple of penalties, they did their points differential no harm at all.
The top of the table now reads Jed played 16 with 71 points, Howe played 15 with 65 points.
Howe therefore have to aim to win their remaining three matches with maximum points and hope that Jed slip up in their final two tussles in the run-in.
If they end up level on league points, the top spot will go to Howe who have a big points differential advantage.
Kirkcaldy were 15-8 adrift of Livingston at half time at Beveridge Park and although they upped their game in the second half, the final 34-25 scoreline denied them even a losing bonus.
Craig Letham had 10 points for Kirkcaldy with a couple of penalties and conversions, Rhys Bonnar had two tries and Littlejohn one but the margin reflected Livingston’s position a slot above Kirkcaldy in the table.
