Glasgow have confirmed that stand-off Duncan Weir suffered a broken leg during Friday night’s victory over Ospreys.
The club revealed the 21-year-old underwent successful surgery on a fracture to his right fibula over the weekend and has now been discharged from hospital.
Head coach Gregor Townsend had already ruled Weir out of Glasgow’s RaboDirect Pro12 play-off campaign and predicted he would miss the start of next season too.
Warriors yesterday stated that the Scotland international would be subject to further assessment in the coming weeks to determine the length his lay-off.
Townsend said: “We’re all gutted for Duncan. He’s had a really good season and he’ll be disappointed to miss the final few games. He’s now on the road to recovery and we wish him all the best for his rehabilitation.”
Weir said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their messages of support over the weekend. My phone has not stopped and it’s really helped me over the last couple of days.”
Scotland hero John Barclay has clinched a move from Glasgow to Pro12 rivals Scarlets. The Welsh giants pounced when the experienced flanker was offloaded by Warriors chief Gregor Townsend.
Barclay, who has finalised a three-year deal with the Llanelli outfit, said: “I am really looking forward to a fresh stage of my career with the Scarlets.”
Barclay, 26, joined Warriors at 17 in 2004 and has won 41 Scotland caps during his nine-year spell in Glasgow.
Meanwhile forgotten man Phil Godman is returning to his roots in a bid to kick-start his big-stage career. The former Edinburgh playmaker was revealed as one of three Scots who have signed for Premiership-bound Newcastle.
And he is hoping his second stint at Kingston Park combined with a reunion with ex-country and club squad mate Mikey Blair will lead to a revival of his Test career.
Godman, who is making the switch from London Scottish, is joined at the Falcons by Sale Sharks Scottish aces Scotty Lawson and Fraser McKenzie.
Having launched his days in pro rugby there back in 2002, he declared: “Wearing the black and white kit again is an exciting prospect. At the age of 30 I feel that I still have my best years ahead of me.”
Godman, who has 23 Scotland caps, last appeared in an international in the 15-15 Calcutta Cup stalemate at Murrayfield three years ago.
Injury then put him out of the running for a place in the World Cup squad in New Zealand the following year.
Meanwhile, the pro career of former Scotland hero Simon Taylor, 33, could be at an end after he was freed by Bath.
