Chunk takes his final bow, Richie McIver could make his debut and Ally Dickinson is on his way back as Edinburgh complete their Rabodirect PRO12 season against Dragons at Murrayfield.
The veteran prop Allan Jacobsen will play his final game before retirement while Dundee HSFP’s McIver will make his professional debut against two new Lions in the Dragons’ Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau if he comes off the bench.
In addition, Edinburgh announced that the 24-times capped Dickinson, who had a previous spell with the capital club having joined them from Dundee HSFP, will return from England on a year’s contract to battle for Jacobsen’s loose-head prop jersey.
The 29-year-old has been with Gloucester and Sale in the Aviva Premiership for the past six seasons having made 55 appearances for Edinburgh in his first spell there from 2004 to 2007.
Dickinson said: “I’ve learned a huge amount from my time in the English Premiership and believe I’m coming back to the club a completely different and much improved player.
“I’m looking forward to putting that into practice for the club who gave me my first chance in professional rugby, alongside some quality players in the front-row.”
Meanwhile fellow Dundonian McIver could get his big chance off the bench after impressing the Edinburgh coaching team since joining them for a concerted two week spell at the end of this season.
Interim head coach Stevie Scott plucked the 25-year-old, last year’s RBS Premiership Player of the Year, from Dundee HSFP.
“Richie is a player who has been performing well in Scotland’s top domestic division, so it was only right that we had a look at him when we picked up a couple of injuries in our back-row,” said Scott.
“He’s fitted in really well, he’s hungry, he’s in good condition, and he wants to play rugby at the next level. Hopefully this weekend will give him a chance to grasp that opportunity.”
Edinburgh restore their own player of the season Greg Tonks as well as Willem Nel to their line-up for their final game, and co-coach Duncan Hodge knows it will be an emotional evening.
“It’s a massive day for Chunk, he’s Edinburgh through and through. It’ll be an emotional day for him, but it comes to us all and it’s been business as usual for the team.”
