ENGLAND hate-figure Chris Ashton put the seal on Edinburgh’s wretched Heineken Cup campaign at snowy Vicarage Road.
The winger with the “Mr Arrogant” tag snapped up a double to make it an Edinburgh whitewash in the tournament.
And Scots supporters will be praying his efforts are not a sign of what is to come at Twickenham in the Six Nations opener a week on Saturday.
Edinburgh were the livelier outfit during the opening exchanges.
Greg Tonks set up their first meaningful raid with a powerful 30-metre surge down the kiddie then Ben Cairns was a fingertip away from latching on to a clever lob by skipper Greig Laidlaw.
There was another rude awakening for the Scots when they were shoved back with ease during a rolling maul.
That provided the platform for Owen Farrell to break the deadlock with his 25th successful pot at goal in a row after Stuart McInally was caught offside. And more one-way traffic at the set piece paved the way for Farrell to strike again in the 15th minute.
Saracens then upped the pace and accuracy to create a simple try.
A dinky chip by scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth left the Edinburgh defence rooted giving Ashton plenty of time and space to flop on the ball.
Farrell’s amazing feat of marksmanship came to an end, however, as he watched his touchline conversion crash back off the near post.
Gunners earned a glimmer of hope two minutes later when they grabbed a touchdown out of nothing.
Wigglesworth made a hash of dealing with a harmless-looking kick from Tonks.
Tonks followed up by hacking the ball towards the line before diving on it and sliding over.
Laidlaw slotted the extras to add further confidence, which was underlined as they spurned the chance of penalty points in the hope of picking up another haul of seven.
A shocking lack of concentration among the Edinburgh back-ranks allowed Ashton to complete his try-double.
They assumed Farrell was about to tee up another shot at goal but instead he launched a pinpoint cross kick to the winger, who was left with a clear path to glory.
Prop Matt Stevens rumbled over for touchdown No3, goaled by Farrell. Charlie Hodgson then made sure of the precious bonus point and Chris Wyles completed the rout in stoppage-time.
