Australian Scott Johnson will be the interim head coach of the Scotland rugby team for the forthcoming RBS 6 Nations Championship.
The 50-year-old from Sydney’s appointment was confirmed by Murrayfield this morning after intense speculation yesterday suggested he was about to be offered the post.
Formerly an interim head coach of Wales and of the USA Eagles, Johnson was senior assistant to Andy Robinson who quit after the humiliating loss to Tonga in Aberdeen last month.
Scottish Rugby chief executive Mark Dodson said that the worldwide search for a permanent successor to Robinson was “intensifying” but in the meantime Johnson had “a wealth of experience of international rugby” to tap into.
“Scott knows our players and coaches well and is determined to hit the ground running with a successful RBS 6 Nations Championship,” said Dodson.
