In my book there were two true Scottish sporting heroes in the French Open tennis.
I’m a Murray man. Yes, I know he didn’t win. But for effort and skill Andy can’t be beaten. Nor for courtesy and humanity.
On Friday night after his gruelling match with Djokovic was interrupted by rain, and when he must have been desperately wanting his bed, Andy took time out to congratulate fellow Scot Gordon Reid.
Gordon had just captured his first Grand Slam title as he partnered Shingo Kunieda of Japan to victory in the men’s wheelchair doubles.
Gordon, from Helensburgh, is now world number three in his sport and a top Scot. Well done to him and let us hope there are many more titles to come.
But Andy’s gesture shows that our man Murray is minted in pure gold.
